A Marine Captain's idea — built in a garage, tested on a beach, contracted onto a military base, and now scaling nationwide.
Shay Putnam, an active-duty U.S. Marine Captain, keeps seeing the same problem at every base and beach: people want to get on the water but don't own gear, can't haul it, or can't afford to rent it the traditional way. He starts sketching a smart locker that lives at the beach and unlocks from your phone.
The first DAB locker is built by hand and deployed at Pensacola Beach, FL. It rents surfboards, paddle boards, and beach gear to real customers. The model works — gear goes out, comes back, revenue flows. Patent application filed.
Proof of conceptReal-world deployment exposed gaps in hardware and software. The entire system is rebuilt from scratch — new locker chassis, new circuit boards, new app, new backend. Version 2 is stronger, smarter, and designed to scale. More Pensacola Beach locations added during the rebuild.
DAB signs a contract with MCCS (Marine Corps Community Services) at Camp Lejeune, NC — the largest Marine base on the East Coast. Site selection, base credentialing, and installation prep begin across Onslow Beach, Hospital Point, Courthouse Bay, and New River Marina.
